CLEAN EATING EXPLAINED

The saying that you can't exercise a bad diet is true and I'm proof of that.

I've attended all the exercise classes and bought all the gym memberships a gal can get her chubby mits on. I've signed up for Pilates, Step Aerobics, HIIT training and 10K races and hardly lost an inch because at the end of the day I was still scoffing my face with a ton of processed, sugar foods.

If you really want to look better. If you really want to feel better and if you really want to shake up your health, then it all starts with the nosh, grub and chow you pop in your gob every day. Beautiful, 'clean, lean and free from additives and preservatives' nosh. Nutritious plants, vegetables and seeds. Healthy fats and grass-fed cuts of meat and even more scrummy, dollops of clean nut butters.

Eating clean is a lifestyle. It is not a diet or a temporary fix. It is about educating yourself about what you purchase, eat and put into that body of yours. It's about waking up and realizing that you are what you eat. Its about realizing that our foods are filled with hidden, nasty chemicals and that processed food should be avoided. Its about realizing that many commercial companies out for a profit, drip feed you information telling you that cereal bars are a healthy option. (They're not!)

The basics of eating clean means eating whole foods which have not been tampered with. If it comes in a box, stay clear. (Think chicken nuggets, breakfast cereals, ready meals). You can also think of it as eating anything which grows (vegetables, plants, fruits), swims (fish), walks (chicken, beef) or flys (duck, geese). Essentially, clean eating requires you to take raw ingredients and create your meals from scratch. It's not as difficult as it sounds and with the help of herbs and spices and my personal favourite coconut oil, you can make grub which will taste awesome and nourish every cell of your body. What better reason to switch.

At first it may able seem overwhelming, but just start with one meal, one day and then one week. Before you know it, it'll be one month and who knows, maybe one year! Eating this way, you'll notice your taste buds change. Soon you'll be chomping on spinach as if its a chocolate snack. Your mood will lift and your skin will glow and you'll most likely drop some pounds along the way. (I lost a stone (14 pounds) in 6 weeks.)

This blog is a personal journey to discovering the benefits of clean eating. All of which I'm happy and eager to share with you.
